There are a too many great events going on during Bay State
Bike Week from May 12-16 to even begin to
mention them all here, but that won’t stop us from trying. Information
for these events can be found at www.baystatebikeweek.org.
The Fifty-thousand Mile Commuter Challenge is a chance for
Bay State residents to collectively cycle more than 50,000 miles during
National Bike Week. Sign up online at www.baystatebikeweek.org and share howmany miles you can bike
that week. (In order to be entered
as a corporate team, BOTH the employer and employee must register but you can
register as an individual.) Plus, there’ll be a friendly competition among
Mass. companies:with prizes and bragging rights.
With Bike Buddies experienced cyclists are encouraged to
become “bike buddies” to lead convoys or just guide a friend or two. Want some
experienced guidance riding into work in Boston? Or want to run errands and
need some support? E-mail BikeWeekBuddies@gmail.com and they will find you
someone who can get you where you want to go safely. This is great for anyone
new to the area or new to cycling who needs a bit of advice.
Safe Rider
Convoys will be around from 6:30 to 9 a.m. on Friday May 16. Convoys of
cyclists will be formed for rides in and out of Boston and Cambridge, providing
a safe and fun way to commute to work and meet new friends.
No Bike, No
Problem. Bike rentals are available at Urban Adventours, so anyone without a
set of wheels doesn’t miss out on the action. Find locations by calling
1-800-979-3370.
Breakfast Pit
Stops will help make that last day of the week a little more pleasant. On Friday, May 16 from 7– 9 a.m. There
will be free breakfast at Government Center Plaza. You can also bike by one of
the “Goodie Zones” and pick up a free water bottle and some snacks.
The Cycle Loft is hosting the Boston-area Premiere of the
Collective's “Seasons” mountain bike film in Celebration of Bike Week at the
Regent Theatre in Arlington Center on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
“Seasons” follows seven of the world's top mountain bikers
through the course of four seasons of one year. The film explores what it means
to be a full time rider as told through the lives of downhill racers,
slopestyle competitors, and big mountain freeriders. It stars mountain bike
greats - Thomas Vanderham, Matt Hunter, Andrew Shandro, Steve Peat, Steve
Smith, Cam McCaul, Darren Berrecloth.
