Starting Line for Sustainability

The Council for Responsible Sport has chosen a number of seedling races to help the group to “guide the development of the standards, the certification process, and supporting documentation.”

“The pilot program will allow CRS to apply and refine certification standards with real-world events confronting real-world sustainability challenges,” states the website www.resporting.org.

A local choice among these eco-friendlier races is Tri-Maine’s Zone Urban EPIC on July 26 in Portland, Maine. The urban triathlon has a 40K downtown bike course normally unavailable to cyclists, and a great 10K ocean run. Designed to be participant and spectator friendly, this race offers a great festival with a climbing wall, martial arts demos, sculptures and artwork, vendors, beer gardens, music and more. The city can only handle so many happy triathletes, sign up now to secure your spot at www.urban-epic.com.
