There is a new face in town for New England Sports and I’m happy to say that it’s mine. After almost three years of editorial doings at our sister East Coast publication MetroSports New York, I’m eager to get to know a new region and all the athletes that make the active community thrive here.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself first. I do a little bit of everything active. I love being outside (in all weather—I’m Canadian so bring on the snow). Kayaking, climbing, running, you name it, I’ll do it. I may not do it well, but that won’t stop me. I got into triathlon three seasons ago. Like everyone, I’ve battled my fair share of injuries, but I’ve had a great time at every event I’ve been to. I definitely don’t consider myself a competitive athlete. One thing you’ll learn about me is that I’m out there for the fun and camaraderie—not the awards.

It’s been my experience that it takes a while to gain your footing in a new place, to learn names, to have people learn your name, and to create the kind of relationships with stores, clubs, gyms and organizations that help bring the community closer and keep the information flowing. There’s a lot to learn and I’m ready to be a studious sponge. For the first little while I’m going to rely on you: readers, store owners, coaches, trainers, race directors…everyone, to tell me what I should know about this community. What do you want to see more of in the magazine? Is there a local issue you wish we would take a closer look at? The more you can tell me, the faster I can get exactly what you ask for into the magazine every month.

We’re gearing up for a really exciting season in 2008 and I can’t wait to get started. We’re aiming to get the community directly involved in the magazine with Letters to the Editor. If you have praise or beef or comments or questions, please write me a letter and we’ll publish as many as we can in each issue. Hopefully your thought-provoking letters will encourage other readers to write in as well. Also, we want to get your event pictures into the magazine in our Replay section. So send me your snaps from fun events with captions and we’ll get them up online and into the magazine.

I look forward to meeting a lot of you then. In the meantime, advice, introductions and suggestions welcome.
